Embrace: A Collective Voice
Amplifying Global Majority Voices Through Art, Solidarity and Collective Resistance.
This was a year‑long programme funded funded by the National Lottery Community Fund involving 8 creative workshops and art-making sessions aimed at Latin American, North African/Arab, and Global Majority diasporas, where participants delved into themes such as colourism, language discrimination, and the historical roots of solidarity shaped by colonisation and religion.
The creative programme culminated in a public exhibition entitled “An Island of Solidarity, not an Island of Strangers” in partnership with Rich Mix London.
Embrace: A Collective Voice consisted of four interrelated outputs:
6 Creative Workshops
These creative workshops united the Latin American, North African/Arab and Global Majority diasporas, using the arts to reflect on shared experiences of marginalisation, identity, and the power of community.
2 Art-making Sessions
These art-making sessions gave participants the opportunity to delve into the powerful stories of our common struggles by stitching stories, threading solidarity and creating community banners for a collective exhibition.
Closing Reception
The programme ended with a reception at Rich Mix London celebrating the conclusion of our Embrace: A Collective Voice programme, in which we used the Arts, storytelling, and reflection, to amplify the voices of those with lived experience of living within the Global Majority diaspora, highlighting their struggles, resilience, and visions for change.
Collective Exhibition
The creative programme culminated in a public exhibition entitled “An Island of Solidarity, not an Island of Strangers” in partnership with Rich Mix London, a powerful collective exhibition showcasing the banners created by participants from the programme.
